The carrier replaced Foch, a conventionally powered aircraft carrier, in 2001. As of July 2021, Charles de Gaulle was the only non-American carrier-vessel that had a catapult launch system, which has allowed for operation of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and C-2 Greyhounds of the United States Navy. She is a CATOBAR-type carrier that uses two 75 m (246 ft) C13‑3 steam catapults of a shorter version of the catapult system installed on the US Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, one catapult at the bow and one across the front of the landing area. The ship carries a complement of Dassault Rafale M and E-2C Hawkeye aircraft, AS365F Dauphin Pedro, EC725 Caracal and AS532 Cougar helicopters for combat search and rescue, as well as modern electronics and Aster missiles. She is named after French president and general Charles de Gaulle. It sounds complicated, but it really wasn't. There was a mailbox in the airport very near the "de-tax" office. They look at your receipts, look at your purchases, and they they stamp your paperwork. We used the "de-tax" office in Terminal 2 at Charles De Gaulle (located near Continental Airlines check-in counter). They will give you a postage paid envelope that you can drop in a French mailbox after all forms have been completed and stamped.ģ: Next, you will tax your completed forms to a "de-tax" office, which I believe is a French governmetn office. If they give you cash, they will also take your credit card number so they can retract the cash in the event you don't complete the paperwork. You must go here first, complete some forms, and they will give you the refund either in cash or on your credit card. The store must have a contract with one of these companies in order for you to get the VAT back.Ģ: The store will tell you where the office is for the private company that they work with. Here is how it worked.ġ: The VAT tax refund is initially handled by a private company, (which I will call the "VAT Refund Company" for lack of a better term, of which there are several. Wanted to get a refund on the VAT tax I paid on some jewelry.
